Welcome to our workshop

This is our woodwork shop, and a look at some of our equipment.
We are always on the lookout for other useful items,

Some of our Bigger pieces of kit

This equipment may not be new, but its ours. Infact we are proud to be the second carers for much of it, and it’s serving us well.

Some are new donations

We are really glad to be supported my some of our local charities. These were presented to us even before we got premises to put them in.

Table saw

An inexpensive table saw, but surprisingly good performance

MITRE SAW

This very flexible mitre saw was donated to us by the Northallerton Variety Company.

BAND SAW

This very versatile saw is great for cutting circles or very fine straight cuts.

Planer / Jointer

Planer has 6″ capacity, but we hope to supplement this with a 12″ planer thicknesser one day.

Belt Sander

This one we have set in horizontal mode.
This was also donated by Northallerton Variety Company

Belt Sander

This belt sander we leave set up in vertical mode

Pillar Drill

Very substantial Drill in addition to a smaller one

Scroll Saw

One of two Scroll Saws we have, and very usefull for profile cutting on thin materials.

Round Bed Lathe

We have three identical to this although, strangely, different colours and different brands. Great for beginners

Flat Bed Lathe

A bit bigger and stronger than our round bed lathes.

One of our first projects, The Romanby Scarecrow Festival

Setting up on Romanby Green

Our scarecrow is a bit different – He has moving eyes that follow you as you walk past – more than a little creepy.

We named him Tormesh Thellanderson (its an anagram)

See how we made him.

Body Building

Recycled plywood and building insulation

FACE SLICES

We used a graphics program to draw the slices and stuck them on some old plywood, then cut them out on the scroll saw.

Heads up

Already a bit scary, here we are trying out the electronics that sense the people and move the eyes.

Coffee Time

Tormesh sits in at coffee time. He’s quite obedient like that.

Publicity

After the scarecrow festival Tormesh resided in the window of the Darlington Building Society, to publicise the men’s shed.
